ON-DEMAND WEBINAR
CAR T-Cell Immunotherapy of Cancer: Time to Think Laterally?
Consultant Immunologist and Senior Lecturer Immunology, KCL
Scientific Founder and CSO, Leucid Bio
Second- and third-generation CAR T-cell therapies have improved how immune cells are engineered to fight cancer, but challenges remain in achieving durable responses and treating solid tumours.
In this webinar, Dr John Maher will explore a different way of designing CARs by organising key signals across separate receptors. He will discuss how parallel and adaptor CAR approaches may improve T-cell fitness, persistence, and anti-tumour activity, and how these platforms are progressing toward clinical evaluation.
About Dr John Maher
Dr John Maher is a Consultant Immunologist, Senior Lecturer in Immunology at King’s College London, and Scientific Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Leucid Bio.
With more than 20 years of experience in CAR T-cell immunotherapy, his work spans receptor engineering, preclinical development, and clinical translation.
- Why the spatial organisation of CAR signalling domains may influence therapeutic performance.
- How parallel CARs coordinate CD28, CD3ζ, and 4-1BB signalling across separate receptors.
- How lateral CAR architectures affect T-cell durability, metabolic fitness, and anti-tumour function.
- How an NKG2D-based adaptor CAR can target multiple tumour-associated stress ligands.
- How these platforms are progressing toward clinical evaluation, including the AERIAL trial and the planned CD19-targeted pCAR study.
